Zone File - Definition

A Zone File is also refereed to as a master file. It is a text based set of instructions thar translates the web address (domain name) that we type into our browser into the appropriate numerical format known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address. As the Zone Files themselves are text based, they need to be kept very secure. Otherwise, they can be easily tampered with and web sites can be redirected to the wrong server.
