RTF (Rich Text Format) - Definition

RTF is an abbreviation for Rich Text Format. It is a file format, purchased by Microsoft around 1990, that enables you to save text files in your word processor with formatting, font information, text color, and some page layout information intact. Most word processors support RTF format import and export, often making it a common format to exchange data between otherwise incompatible word processing software.
