Meta Tag - Definition

A Meta Tag is an HTML tag that contains essential information about a web page. Individual Meta Tags are often grouped together in the web page header section, acting as commands telling Web Browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, or Search Engines to perform specific tasks. Meta Tags provide information about a given web page to help search engines categorize them correctly. Meta Tags can be very useful for Web developers as they can be used to identify the web page creator, what HTML specifications the page follows, the keywords and description of the page and the refresh parameter, which can be used to reload the page itself, or to load another page instead. These are just a few of the common uses of Meta Tags.
