Hyperlink - Definition

A Hyperlink is a link from one web page to another, usually indicated by the blue coloration of an underlined word or phrase. Clicking on that phrase either takes the user to a new page or opens a new window that contains the linked page. Hyperlinks can also go to Newsgroups, Telnet and FTP sites. Certain software makers incorporate the use of hypertext and hyperlinks into their applications such as Windows help files and Adobe Reader Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Hyperlinks are also called anchors.
