How To Hide The Windows Task Bar

If you are tired of looking at the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen, then you can enable the Auto hide feature to not display it. Therefore, this technical brief will show you how to enable this auto hide feature.

For Windows XP

  1. Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.
  3. Now click on the Taskbar and Start Menu icon to display its Properties Window.
  4. If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.
  5. Then click on Settings, then click on the Taskbar and Start Menu icon to display its Properties.
  6. Now, place a check mark into the white box next to the Auto-hide the taskbar option.
  7. Then click the OK button to save your changes and close the Taskbar Properties Window.
  8. The Taskbar will automatically hide itself whenever you move your mouse away from it.
  9. To activate your Taskbar again, simply move your mouse to the bottom of the screen.

For Windows 98 And Windows Millennium

  1. Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on Settings and then click on the Taskbar and Start Menu icon.
  3. This will open up the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Window.
  4. Then place a check mark into the white box next to the Auto hide option.
  5. Then click the OK button to save your changes and close the Taskbar Properties Window.
  6. The Taskbar will automatically hide itself whenever you move your mouse away from it.
  7. To activate your Taskbar again, simply move your mouse to the bottom of the screen.
