How To Smooth The Edges Of Your Screen Fonts

Microsoft provides us with built in functionality in Windows to smooth the edges of our screen fonts. Sometimes when you view certain web pages with a lot of fonts, some of the fonts may appear to have jagged edges. Imagine how much better certain web pages would look if you could view them with smoother fonts. Therefore, this technical brief will show you how to enable this smoother font feature.

For Windows XP

  1. Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.
  3. If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.
  4. Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.
  5. Now, Double click on the System icon to open up the System Properties window.
  6. Then click on the Advanced tab located at the top of the screen.
  7. Now click on the Settings button under the Performance section of the screen.
  8. Under the visual effects section place a check mark next to: Smooth edges of screen fonts.
  9. Then click OK to save your settings and click OK again to exit the System Properties window.
  10. Then close the Control Panel to return back to you Windows session.

For Windows 98 And Windows Millennium

  1. Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on Settings and then click on the Control Panel icon.
  3. Double click on the Display icon to open up the Display Properties window.
  4. Then click on the Effects tab located at the top of the screen.
  5. Under the visual effects section place a check mark next to: Smooth edges of screen fonts.
  6. Then click on the OK button to save your settings and exit the Display Properties window.
  7. And then close the Control Panel to return back to you Windows session.
