How To Delete A Desktop Shortcut In Windows Vista

A shortcut is a small file that allows you to put an icon for an application in a directory other than the one containing the application. These shortcuts are usually placed on the desktop. However, creating too many of them can clutter the desktop. Therefore, this tip will show you how to delete desktop shortcuts.


To Delete A Desktop Shortcut In Windows Vista

  1. Right-click on the shortcut on the desktop that you want to remove.
  2. Then click on Delete.
  3. If prompted, click on Yes to confirm sending the item to the Recycle bin.
  4. Windows Vista will automatically delete the shortcut on the desktop.
  5. You can also highlight a desktop shortcut with the mouse and then press the keyboard delete key.

Note: When a shortcut is deleted, the item, such as a file or application, will remain unchanged.
