Cache - Definition

A Cache is a place within a computer where temporary information is retained. Typically, the Cache would include recently visited web pages. With this type of stored information, the next time this same web page is visited, the access time will be much quicker since the stored information will be used instead of new information having to be downloaded from the actual website. Cache is also a special block of fast memory used for temporary storage of data for quick retrieval. You can think of a buffer as a temporary holding place between two devices where cache would act as a temporary holding place for one device.
